What’s New With My Kids These Days

Averly, 3 weeks old now, has filled out so much! She looks like a totally different baby! Her little legs & arms actually have some meat on them & her belly & cheeks are so big & round. I just love it! Her hair is growing fast too. It is so long in the back. We already have a mullet going. ;0)

She has started making more eye contact with me when she nurses in the last day or so. I just love to look down & see her staring up at me. That is one of the greatest joys of breastfeeding. She is a little piggy though & basically thinks that if she’s awake, she needs to be eating! We are still working on getting on a better routine for the day. Nighttime is still great. We normally lay her down for the night around 9:30 or 10 right after she gets through eating, then she will wake up anywhere between 2 & 4-4:30 to eat, then again around 8 or so for the day. Not too bad that it’s usually only once or twice to get up, but that/those feeding(s) can sometimes last a while though. Just because she normally is awaken by her belly hurting her so she poops, eats, then she sometimes fusses with her belly again & poops again, then I can finally lay her down to sleep. But before I know it an hour or more has passed.

She hasn’t been much of a spit up baby, but just yesterday she spit up projectile style twice. Once while she sitting in her Boppy Chair beside me. It came out of nowhere too. She had eaten a while before it happened & was asleep in her chair. She started coughing & making gurgling sounds so I yanked her up & about that time she spit up everywhere. It was a lot for her. Then this morning around 5 after she got through eating I burped her, swaddled her back up, laid her in the crib & headed to the potty myself when I heard that gurgling sound again. I ran back into the room but she had already spewed. She was covered in it & so was the crib & some even made it over onto the floor. It scared me to death! Both times she seemed fine. Never cried or anything even though it was coming out her poor little nose! I don’t know what caused it all of the sudden, but if it continues I will definitely be calling her doctor.

I don’t think I ever mentioned it before, but when she was born & the doctor had to use the vacuum to pull her out of my pelvis it made a hematoma (basically a knotted bruise) on the top right side of her head. The bump wasn’t ever very big-about the size of a quarter maybe & you honestly couldn’t tell by looking at her. You had to rub her head to even notice it at all. The doctors assured me that it was not hurting her nor would it affect anything. There is nothing you can do about it. Just have to let it go away on its own. They said it would probably go away within a couple weeks or so & it did! It disappeared out of the blue yesterday!

We are still going strong with Tummy Time & she is getting better each day holding her head up a little longer at the time. She is liking laying on her belly more now too. Where as she hated it before. She is still having belly trouble every now & then and laying on her belly for a little while is really the only thing that seems to help.

My Riley man is doing great too! It still amazes me how much he soaks up with that little brain of his! We try not to let him watch much TV but in the mornings it’s about the only way that I can get him breakfast, tend to Averly & maybe start a load of laundry without him right under my feet. So I turn on the Disney Channel & let him watch a few shows during that time. He never just sits in front of the TV & watches a whole show (although that might actually be nice if he did every now & then! Haha!) but he really picks up a lot when he is paying attention. Some of his favorites are The Mickey Mouse Club, Handy Manny & Chugington. I never really thought of any of these shows as very “educational” but he has learned something from all of them. On “Mi Mow” (Mickey Mouse) they count things & solve problems. Today I said something along the lines of “We can go outside in just a minute if you want to” & he held up 2 fingers saying “two, two”. Even though it wasn’t the correct ‘to, two, too’ he still connected the dots there. Then he’ll say “O doooodle” (it’s also something they say on “Mi Mow”). The other day he brought me an old toy that he hasn’t played with in ages that needed new batteries. I told him that we would have to get some new batteries so it would work. Then he ran to our junk drawer in the kitchen & grabbed some tape saying “fifs fit” (fix it). Obviously they say that a lot on “Han Man” (Handy Manny). Ever since then he has brought us numerous things to “fifs fit”. And Chugington…well he just likes the theme song from that show. He loves to sing “chu chu chu” & dance when it comes on.

His Southern drawl is really starting to come out these days! Yes, we are definitely from the South but this little boy is COUN-TRY! Ball has now become “bawl”, dog is now “dowg” & things like that. I just love his little accent! He has recently become interested in coloring & loves to “drawwwl” on any paper he can find. He got into my bag the other day & even wrote a check for me! ;0)

His favorite thing to do now that it’s warming up outside is to “ming” (swing). We have really been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we are having & it’s supposed to get up to 80 in the next day or so! I am so excited!

Last Thursday was my 1st FULL day alone with both kids. Before that I had either TAG, my mom, or my sister-in-law there with me. When my mom left that last day I cried on the inside, but held it in because I knew this is our new reality & I would have to face it alone at some point. I did much better than I thought I would all by myself but I do appreciate all the help I've had. Especially from my mom. She has done so much!
This picture just cracks me up! He’s looking a little thuggish at the grandparents’ house! Haha! My dad got him that hat & every time he goes to their house he puts it on first thing! He loves it. He usually wears it just sitting on top of his head like the old men at the Co-op do…you know who I’m talking about! But it must’ve fallen & he looks like a little gangster with that big coat too!

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather as much as we are!

Averly’s First Real Bath

Averly got her first real bath Saturday night since her umbilical cord fell off last week. Please ignore how horrible I look with no make-up on, my hair a mess & who knows what that is on my shirt. Ahh the joys of motherhood!

Riley’s 18 Month (19 1/2 really) & Averly’s 2 week Check Ups

I took Riley for his 18 month check up on Monday, even though he is almost 20 months now! I had it scheduled earlier & completely forgot about it! I guess I can blame that on pregnancy brain at the time! Anyway, Riley checked out great. He weighs 28 lbs & is 35 1/2 in long! What a big boy I have! He was so good the entire appointment, even when he had to get his 2 shots. :0( Not a lot to report with him right now, which I guess is a good thing. The doctor said that his verbal skills are at a 2 year old level (I think his fit-throwing is also! He's getting good at those tantrums! ;0)) & he's right on track with everything else. He was of course above average in all of his measurements because we were behind 2 months, but he was in the 97th percentile for height, 75th for weight & 25th for head circumference.

I have to say, we must have some pretty honest to goodness good people in our town because while we were waiting in the exam room for the doctor to come in Riley was playing with my keys. I saw that he was pushing buttons but didn't think anything about it because we were literally in the back of the building & my car was parked way out front so I figured there was no way it would reach. Well it did. And at least 30-45 minutes later when we walked out, I saw the whole back hatch of my Tahoe was up-not just the glass hatch-the WHOLE thing. Wide open. (There's a button on the remote that opens & closes it.) My heart sank. I just knew everything was gone. Britax carseats, a stroller, a battery powered ride on lawn mower toy of Riley's, CDs, sunglasses & who knows what else in my console. I cringed as I walked over to my car & would you know everything was still there! I was so relieved! Next time he goes to play with my keys, I will definitely think again about letting him when we are out somewhere!

I took Averly for her 2 week check up on Wednesday & she looked great too. What little touch of Jaundice she had was completely gone. She has grown a whole inch & is now 20 1/2 in long! And guess how much Miss Piggy weighs now?! 8 lbs, 4 oz!! I am not even kidding when I say she gained that over night! Even Tuesday she looked so small & petite still, but Wednesday morning before I took her to the doctor my mom & I were talking about how much bigger her belly looked & how filled out her arms & legs were getting. TAG said that her face looked like it was twice as big as the day before. It was like instantly she could fit into most of her NB size clothes! Despite how big she seems to me, she was in the 50th percentile for height, weight, & head circumference which was 36 cm. Just perfect! I asked the doctor if I should still be waking her up at night to eat because she normally goes about 5 hours at night, so in essence she's only waking up once per night to eat. He said "let her sleep...she's clearly getting all the calories she needs with that much of a weight gain!" Haha! So sleep it is!

Look at that big belly!

While we were waiting in the Well Baby waiting room (we were the only ones at the time) a girl walked in about my age with her 2 week old for his 1st check up as well. We got to talking & she reminded me a lot of myself when I first had Riley. She was worried about every little thing with her baby that was really nothing to worry about at all. She was asking me all kinds of questions & for advice. I felt like an old pro! Haha! It’s funny how much more relaxed I am this go ‘round. I’m sure it’s the same with everybody when they go from 1 child to 2. With Riley I had a touch of Post Partum depression. Nothing severe at all & it didn’t last long (maybe a couple weeks). There were NO bad thoughts or feelings directed towards my baby, just towards myself. I felt like I wasn’t prepared enough to be a good mom. I felt like it was my fault that he had Jaundice. I remember just sitting in the window holding him & crying on the phone to my mom because I didn’t know what to do. I also felt like it was my fault that he was so small. I laugh now because Riley was totally fine & I was waaaay emotional, but I’ll never forget telling TAG that I felt like I didn’t give him enough nutrition when I was pregnant because he was so tiny! (Even though I took all my Prenatal Vitamins & did everything exactly as you should when you’re pregnant.) Or when my dad was holding him & said he had chicken legs-just joking around of course & I just started boo-hooing because again, I felt like I didn’t do a good job “growing him” inside of me. Wow, like I said I laugh now but at the time it’s really hard being a brand new mom. I’m sure most can agree.

On a lighter note, we started Tummy Time today with Miss A! She is so strong already but she’s going to have to be to keep up with big brother!

This was after she got tired. She just looks so sweet resting on her belly.

I love this one of the two of them!

2 Weeks Old As of Yesterday

It is so hard to believe that Averly is already 2 weeks old. What’s even harder to believe is how much she has changed in those 2 weeks. I know this post is all over the place & really sporadic but I just wanted to document the things that are going on right now.

After getting 2 or 3 baths, she decided that she likes them now, especially getting her hair washed. I guess she gets that from me. I love to have my head rubbed too. :0)

Her favorite way to be held is up over our shoulder. She also loves to nuzzle her head up under my neck.

It’s looking like we are going to have another blue eyed kiddo. Her eyes are turning lighter blue every day. Her hair is looking like it may even have a little wave in it. I would love for her to have some curls! How fun would that be?! She already has enough hair to wear real bows & not just headband bows. I am so excited about that! ;0)

This little piggy loves to eat! She still only wakes up at night maybe once or twice, if any, to eat but during the day she can’t get enough! We go Wednesday for her 2 week check up & I am very anxious to see how much she weighs now. I know she has gained quite a bit because she has moved up from Preemie diapers to Newborn! But all of her Newborn size clothes are still too big yet.

She is growing, growing too. I remember in the hospital saying that her ears were as big as my thumb print & now they are bigger. Her little head now fits perfectly in the palm of my hand. Crazy how fast they grow. We had her newborn picture session on Saturday. I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

She still has all of her fuzzy newborn hair on her face, arms, & a little still on her legs. We call her Fuzzy Wuzzy. :0)
DSC_10640 DSC_10635

Like I said earlier, she still sleeps great at night. Every couple nights or so she will wake up on her own, but I wake her up to eat more than she wakes up. She really only wakes up if her belly hurts. She seems to have more tummy issues than I remember Riley having. We never had to use Mylicon drops with him until he was older & on formula (in addition to breastmilk) while I was at work. But I just gave her a dose just a few minutes ago. It was the first time I’ve given it to her & it’s supposed to be ok for newborns so we’ll see if it helps.

DSC_0606

Riley is still so proud of her. She’s a very content baby & will let Riley mess with her without getting upset. That’s definitely a good thing because he is always loving on her!

DSC_0620

She definitely looks like me when I was a baby but at times I see a LOT of Riley in her. This is a picture of Riley when he was 11 days old & it looks just like Averly.

063

She is very alert & tries to find whoever is talking to her. She’ll just look & listen so hard with all kinds of facial expressions. It’s so sweet.

DSC_0622

At 2 weeks exactly her umbilical cord fell off.

DSC_0631

She doesn't really like pacis just yet but will take it sometimes. I love her little screech owl noises that she makes when she stretches. What a hard life! I've heard a couple coos out of her already but she doesn't realize what she's doing yet or how to do it consciously. It brings a big smile to my face when she smiles, even though she doesn't know she doing it either, but it's beautiful. I can't wait to get one consciously directed at me!

DSC_0632

I love absolutely everything about her. How sweet & innocent she is. How beautiful she is. God created her just perfectly for us. I could sit & stare at her all day long in awe.

Happy 2 weeks here angel baby!

Averly’s First Outing

Averly took her first trip to her grandparents’ house on Tuesday. After not leaving the house for 6 days, I was getting cabin fever so my mom drove us to their house to get out for the day. Luckily my parents don't live far away & we could just get up & go. We ended up staying the night & let Dada get a full night’s rest. It was good to get out & breathe some new air!
