The things he says and does

I wouldn’t trade for the world! My little man is such a hoot. He really keeps us on our toes & seriously entertained.

This boy has a serious southern accent & I just love it! He says “otaaaayy” just like Buckwheat from the Little Rascals. We hear “Otaaayy” mainly when he is asking to do something. Like if he wants to go outside he’ll say “Side? Otaaayy.” Basically answering himself & then heading towards the door.

He uses Averly like a doll to point to all of her body parts-eyes, nose, ears, toes, etc & when he gets to her legs he says “nun nuhs” without skipping a beat & just keeps on naming parts off. Can you guess what “nun nuhs” translates to? Thunders (i.e. Thunder thighs, i.e. Averly’s thighs). Yes, he heard us tell Averly that she had some thunder thighs & now he repeats it. But to be fair, he does point to his scrawny little chicken legs that are smaller than his 4.5 month old sister’s & “nun nuhs” to them too. Bless him.

The little stinker knows exactly how to sweet talk & get what he wants. If we say no to something he gets a big grin on his face, gives us a huge bear hug around the neck & says “peeeeeesshh?!?” How can I not give in to that?

He really has been so good about not being jealous at all but the in the last few days sometimes when I’m feeding Averly, he will climb up in the chair beside us & bury his head in the other side of my chest. He can’t quite figure out what she’s doing down there but he tries to partake. He’s also copying everything that Averly does. If she squeals, he squeals. If she’s laying down kicking & waving her arms. He lays down by her & kicks. And even sometimes when I’m changing her diaper he starts saying “diber” wanting me to change his too. I’m not worried about it right now because I know he’s just playing but I really hope he doesn’t start reverting back to acting like a baby. Like just crying or whining instead of telling me what he wants. Or not wanting to use the potty now because he wants to wear diapers like Averly. Am I crazy for even thinking that?

My mom sent me a text Monday morning saying that Riley wouldn’t eat anything but Texas Toast & an ice cream cone for breakfast that day. That’s the breakfast of champions right there! Geez!

As you may or may not know, he is still not a very good sleeper. He still wakes up every now & then calling me to come in his room. I usually lay down in his bed by him for 5-10 minutes until he’s out again & we’re good. A few nights ago he woke up calling me so I went in his room. He was sitting up in his bed patting the pillow for me to lay down. Even if it was 2 in the morning it put a big smile on my face.

Yesterday when I was at work & my mom was keeping the kids my sister called her phone but she didn’t hear it. So Riley took it upon himself to answer it. How he knew how to actually answer it, I do not know. But he brought it to mom all the while chatting away to my sister. Saying “Heyyo Mamie!” Apparently he has become quite the little “Chatty Cathy” when it comes to talking on the phone because this morning while I was at work I called my mom to check on the kids (like I do every day that I’m at work) & Riley was having a fit to talk to me. I could hear him saying “Mama, talk. Talk. TAAAALLLK!” So my mom put him on the phone. Normally when he does this he just sits there. Listening. Wanting you to talk to him but not answering you back. Well today was different. Today was the first day he has ever actually talked to me. And I do mean talked. He was carrying on his own little conversation. Telling me that he had been playing with his basketball & what he ate for breakfast & that he was being a good boy. Even what Averly was doing at the moment. It was the sweetest thing. Even though it’s nothing big, I was so overjoyed that I wanted to just go right through the phone & squeeze him so tight!

He counts anything that he sees in multiples. Like if there is 3 chairs, he will count “Mon, chu, chree chairs!” Or 5 spoons. “Mon, chu, chree, fo, five spoons!” Then he gets so proud of himself & will say “Goot job Ra-vey!!” Precious.

Riley’s new favorite show is Caillou. I had never heard of it until we started watching the Sprout channel OnDemand. And thank goodness for that OnDemand feature because he begs to watch it right after he wakes up from his nap in the afternoons. Otherwise a t-total meltdown may occur. Anyway, this little Caillou fellow is pretty cute. And Riley has watched all 4-5 episodes OnDemand so much that he basically has the whole thing memorized. He can quote Caillou pretty well now.

Now that we have started feeding Averly rice cereal, Riley wants to help out too. I’ve caught him trying to feed her his yogurt a number of times. He didn’t quite hit her mouth though. More like just got it all over her face & neck. Poor little girl. When I tell him that Averly can’t have yogurt just yet, he starts saying “Hep (help). Me.” I can’t get onto him for just wanting to help but baby girl may not make it to her 1st Birthday if I don’t!

When he’s looking for a toy or something he’ll search the house saying “___________ (fill in the blank with whatever he’s looking for--tractor, ball, Mama’s phone, bep beps, Averly, etc.), y’are yooouuu?” Then when he finds it, he’ll say “D’ere it is!”

A couple weeks ago we went swimming at my friend’s house & he scraped his toe on the patio. That boo boo hung around for a while & he was sure to remind us hourly that it hurt. All we heard for a few days was “Boo boo hurts me.” In the sweetest little pouty *almost* 2year old voice.

If he’s ready to go somewhere, even just to another room. He politely asks me “Mama, go n’ere?” The “n’ere” is read ‘in there’. It’s just another part of this little country-fied boy’s southern drawl. I guess he gets that honest though.

Like I said, we have plenty of daily (and nightly) entertainment that you just can’t put a price on. I love every single minute with this kid!

I know I’ve been slacking on written posts lately, but I do have some stuff to update & will try to get around to typing it all up in the next day or so. I’m just so exhausted lately…

“Bubba”

These kids love their Bubba.

And so do I. I am so thankful to have such a wonderful dad that loves his grandkids so much!

Could this be it??

Picture 259

I bought a little potty seat for Riley this weekend & we tried it out yesterday. He LOVED sitting on it & reading Dada’s magazines but nothing exciting has happened just yet. He sat on it for a good 30 minutes last night just reading (and chatting) away.

I had to post these videos because they just crack me up. Excuse his sweaty hair. We had just come in from outside. Also, you’ll notice there is no toilet paper on the holder. He kept pulling it off & “wiping” so we had to move it out of his reach.

And yes, he is calling his Dad by his first name.

I’m really hoping that there is not many more diapers in this big boy’s future! I think we’re off to a good start so far.

My, what a big baby we have!

Averly’s 4 month check-up was on Thursday & Miss Priss has definitely been growing! TAG & I guessed her weight before we went & I ended up being the closest. I said 20 lbs, he said 25. Well TAG, she’s chunky but not that chunky! Here’s Averly’s 4 month stats:

Weight: 18 lbs, 14 oz (95th%ile)

Height: 26 1/2 in (95th%ile)

Head Circumference: 41 cm (50th%ile)

The first thing Dr. Phillips said when he walked in was “Well, clearly you’re starving the poor baby! ;0)” Yep, this poor little girl just never gets to eat!

Look at those sweet legs!

I love my little chunky monkey so much!

This Boy…

Is always up to something.

Is loud & “all boy” but sweet & caring at the same time.

Is so much fun!

Is smart as a whip & learns something new everyday.

Can’t sit still for more that .5 seconds. He would run all day if we would let him. Too bad for him nap time interferes with that.

Loves to read books & has lots of them memorized.

Awaits anxiously to feed my parents’ dogs when we are dogsitting. Even builds his own step stool.

Picture 181

Knows several letters of the alphabet & can name something that starts with that letter (i.e. Z is for zebra, etc).

Is cute as a button.

Picture 232

Will not eat hardly anything. Fruitsnacks are his favorite. But he would rather pour his bowl of cereal & raisins out in his room & bang them with his toy frying pan.

Picture 199

Loves his little sister so much. He always wants to hold her & asks by saying “holts. me?” When she sneezes he says “bet chu Avalee!” Kisses her goodnight & says “nih nih luu you Avalee”.

Picture 132

His little rapidly expanding vocabulary seems to gain several words per day.

Still asks for a snack by pointing to the pantry & saying “mmmmms”.

Doesn’t forget a thing. Slick little guy doesn’t let anything get past him.

Is becoming more & more interested in the potty & asks to sit on it a lot now. We are just waiting for him to actually go in the potty now.

Turned 23 months old yesterday! Which means I will have a 2 YEAR OLD next month!!!

Water Park Fun

Thursday the kids & I went with MaryDuke & Hartley to a fun little water park close to where we live. Riley & Hartley loved it!

Miss Averly stuck her toes under the water a few times too!

Picture 162

Waiting for the water to come back on. Aren’t they sweet?!

Big Things for a Little Girl

When I scheduled THIS post to publish on July 8th, I didn’t even realize at the time that it was the day Averly turned 4 months old. So as a continuation to that post, here is a little more that my pumpkin pie has been up to.

Her little personality is really starting to take shape. She laughs & laughs at Riley and is beginning to interact with him a little more.

She holds & plays with toys. Brings them to her mouth.

She is super ticklish, especially around her neck.

She is wearing a size 2 diaper, but I have some 2-3’s that we are about to move her up to. Mostly 3-6 month clothes, but still some 3 month & some 6 month.

She has started liking her paci. I have rarely been able to get her to suck on it, but she is coming around to it & will want it every now & then when she’s sleepy.

Picture 186 Picture 190

This is her new trick she likes to do. She’ll stick her tongue out & then laugh. It is sooo cute! Sometimes when I’m feeding her she will stop eating, look up at me & stick her tongue out, then laugh & go back to eating. Little stinker!

Picture 193

She is a very happy, content baby. Nothing really seems to bother her. Except lately her teeth. I expect to see a tooth in her mouth any day now. She drools puddles & is soaked within 5 minutes of getting a new outfit on. And she has even had a screaming fit that lasted for 1.5 hours one evening. Nothing could soothe her for the longest but she finally tired out & fell asleep. We did get some teething tablets for her & they have seemed to help.

Picture 129

Saturday, July 10th was her first night to try rice cereal. I hesitated to give it to her just yet because it makes her seem so old to be eating already! But she has been waking up around 4-5:00 in the morning lately wanting to eat, so I figured we would go ahead & give it a shot. So far (it has only been 2 nights) it hasn’t seemed to help all that much. She is still waking up once a night, but I really think part of it is due to her teeth hurting her.

Riley cracks me up in this picture. He was pointing to his mouth & saying “eat…mouth”. I guess he was trying to give her some advice on eating & how to do it. :0)

Averly seemed so excited & anxious to get that spoon in her mouth. She even tried to help shovel it in on the first bite.

Picture 210

But…she hated the stuff. She made the funniest faces when she was trying to swallow it.

Picture 220

Then TAG took a turn at feeding her, but she still did NOT like it.

Picture 216

“Eww what are you feeding me, Dada?”

Picture 219Picture 223

The next morning, July 11th , 2010 we had Averly’s Baby Baptism. It was such a special day for my sweet girl & I can’t wait for the day to see her (and Riley) at their Believer’s Baptism as well. Family came into town for the occasion, but somehow I managed not to get any pictures of anyone. I was too caught up in taking them of my precious baby.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, that’s the gown she came home from the hospital in.

Picture 226 Picture 231 Picture 233 Picture 234

This was the best picture my sister could get of the actual Baptism. Averly did so well & didn’t make a peep the whole time we were up there. I am so proud of her.

Picture 237

Averly, these past 4 months have been nothing short of amazing. I love watching you grow & change every single day. I never knew I could feel such a love for not only one, but two angels that God has given me.

Happy 4 months sweetheart! You are loved more than you’ll ever know.
