I’ll Be Your Honey Bee

Saturday we threw an Engagement Party for my sister & her fiancĂ© at my parents’ house. I based the theme off of Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee” song & I think it turned out pretty cute! I didn’t want to go overboard with the bee theme so there were just little touches here & there and for the most part it was just a rustic backyard party. I had so much fun getting everything together for them.

I didn’t get a picture of the gift table with the actual presents, but this was it before people arrived with the arrangement I made for Jamie.

I wanted to put my own spin on the advice tree that everyone does, so I got a rock pallet that my dad was about to throw away & nailed randomly placed nails to it for people to hang the tags on. It was so much fun reading what everyone wrote.

I also have a plan for this old pallet at the wedding that I can't wait to get to work on!

I got my dad to cut some slices of a tree stump for me to set the food on & burn their initials on.

I loved how the bee cake balls turned out!

Riley & Averly enjoyed themselves for a while before they had to go to bed. But Riley just couldn’t stand knowing there was a party going on outside that he wasn’t part of & kept sneaking out of bed & coming back out!

More Riley-isms

Picture 018
After reading his bedtime story & saying his prayers a few nights ago, he said “Tell me a story, pwease.” I said we just read a story. And he said, “No, one dat starts yike dis "’once upon a time’…”

Averly was upset & crying about something & Riley said, “Sing dis for her 'twinkle twinkle little star...’ It makes her happy!”

While riding in the car, I was singing along with the radio & Riley said, “Keep singing, Mama! You make me happy!”

A few weeks ago we were visiting TAG’s sister & her husband & Riley decided he wanted to stay a few days with them after we left. He has stayed at my parents’ house overnight a lot but never anywhere else so I didn’t know if he would actually do it or not. He was fine with telling me bye & seeing me leave but he did not want Averly away from him! First he started kinda whining, saying “Don’t take my sis-ser. She has to stay wit me.” Then he got a little angry when we didn’t honor his request! He would say "You are NOT going to take my sis-ser!" With a mad face & all. It was sweet that he didn’t want to be without her but he has to learn to be on his own some too. We also have issues with this at the church nursery. He is in a different class than Averly & cries every time we drop him off. They have to take him down the hall to see her & then he’s ok for a little while. Bless his heart! Hopefully he will be this protective of her when they are in high school!

He has developed quite the attitude lately, too. I told him to pick his toys up before pulling out something else & he told me no. I got on to him & said I am the mom, here. Without skipping a beat, he said, "And I am da big boy, here."

Another time to my mom he said, "Give me some juice!" She told him to ask nicely. He said, "Can you give me some juice please? Quession mark?"

Despite him thinking he’s all grown up at times, he is still a sweetie pie. He loves to pick me flowers & says "For you, Mama!" It makes my day every time.

If he thinks he deserves a prize (for whatever reason) he will say, “I wanna tell you a sweequet.” Then come whisper in my ear what he “needs” as a prize. Usually it’s either candy or bubbles.

We are currently working on memorizing the Pledge of Allegiance & {some for now of} The Ten Commandments. It’s harder than I thought it would be. He is also really into dressing himself these days. I never thought a boy would be so opinionated about his outfit but he wants to wear what he wants to wear!

Even though I don’t feel like it’s possible to love him any more than I do now, I somehow love this little boy more every day!

Summer Fun

We have literally been going non-stop this summer! So much that I am way behind on blogging. Here is just a little bit of what we’ve been up to lately.

Averly sat at the big kids’ table for the first time on May 15th. Somehow I missed that but she thinks she’s 4 now. :0)

And she does everything her big brother does. Down to taking sips of her drink at the same time he does.

Picture 338

She is growing up way too fast!

Picture 339

We’ve been spending the majority of our days outside. Usually in the sprinkler or some body of water.

Riley finally warmed up to the lake on his 3rd trip there this year. He jumped right in with no hesitation. We could barely keep both of the kids on the boat. They are both little water bugs. I think we stay in the water for a couple hours straight. Who needs a boat?!

(Riley & Averly both had a fit to wear their floaties at first, but they eventually came off. At least they weren’t going to sink with them on & a life jacket!)

We have also been hanging out at the pool as much as possible trying to stay cool.

And we have still been making our weekly trips to Target. They looked terrified but they are actually really excited to go to Target!

A while back we had a few straight days of rain so we were trapped inside. As hot as it is, I still prefer being outside all day…as long as we have some water to cool off in!
