Last night was much better. I fed him supper later than normal. Usually he eats around 6:30, but I waited until 7:45 to let him eat. He started getting sleepy around 8:30, so I fed him a bottle with Rice Cereal in it. This was the 1st time I have ever put cereal in his bottle. I made a 5 ounce bottle & he ate ALL of it & wanted more so I made him another 2 ounces, but he only ate one, for a total of 6 ounces! OH.MY.GOSH!! He has never eaten that much at once! I was so proud of him! He fell asleep around 9:30 & I put him in his bed. He stayed asleep until 2:15. I let him cry for that 5 minute span, then went in to comfort him. Then left for another 5 minutes (I couldn't make the 10 minutes). We kept doing this for the next hour & eventually I had enough. I decided I would try the "weaning" technique. So I let him nurse, but not as long as he normally does. This relaxed him & he fell back asleep until 7:00 this morning. All in HIS room! It wasn't a perfect night, but it was a start. At least I have a better game plan for tonight:
1. Fed him supper around 8.
2. Give him a bottle with cereal in it.
3. I may try swaddling him, which a couple of you suggested, too. I haven't swaddled him since he was about 2 months old, but I may give it a shot again to see how he does.
4. Continue with the weaning of that night feeding AND follow Rachel's advice of 1/2 way through the feeding, slipping a bottle in.
5. Try the "cry it out" method if I need to (I'm hoping the weaning technique eliminates his waking for "comfort nursing").
If tonight goes even
a little better than last night, I think (
hope) we are on the right track.
Thanks for all the advice, too! I really appreciate it & love hearing what other momas are doing.
a start is good girl!! He will ge the hang of it, now remember all of this for me so when i start trying this you can help me out:)
ReplyDeleteI am soo happy for you!!! Riley is super cute! Sounds like you are on the right track and do not be alarmed about him eating 3oz or a little more. My son never drank more than 6 oz and most of his bottles ending up being a 4 oz feeding. Weslty was tall and skinny just like Riley and he is a healthy 3 1/2 year old now. He never has ate much, believe me if he is hungry he will LET YOU KNOW! My boss had a great success with the -cry for 5 minute then go in and stick pacifer back in then leave. The baby I care for is 8 months old so her and Riley are pretty close. Swaddling is great - it can help him settle back down. I started a blog www.3hardens.blogspot.com check it out. I am selling a great product especially for kid friendly homes. There is more info on my blog....if you are interest in the product let me know...I live in Independence so pretty close to ya. Good Luck with the nightly routine :)
